Shahbaz Sharif was born on September 23 (1951), in a developed city of Lahore, Pakistan. His current age is 72 years. He has also been a Pakistani businessman, politician, and Prime Minister. Shahbaz Sharif was born in (1951), four years after India moved from Amritsar Punjab, India to Lahore, Punjab Province, Pakistan, during the partition of India and Pakistan (1947). His father Muhammad Sharif had set up a steel factory outside the city. Which was popularly known as Itifaq Group of Steel Mills in the decade (1960s).
Shahbaz Sharif attended St, Anthony's High School before completing his Bachelor of Arts degree from Government College of University in the early 1970s. He joined Itifaq Group of Steel Mills immediately after graduation. But in 1972, Zulfkar Ali Bhutto disenfranchised the Sharif family and forced them to join the political ranks. After Zia-ul-Haq came to power in (1977).
The agreement was returned to the Sharif family. Shahbaz Sharif, who thus acquired both business experience and political acumen, was elected president of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce for one year. Shahbaz Sharif's entry into politics made him the second of three brothers in his family to play political roles. His elder brother Nawaz Sharif became the Finance Minister of Punjab Province in (1981). His younger brother Abbas Sharif served in the National Assembly for a short period (1993-1997). But died of a heart attack in (2013) and did not serve in a national capacity before his death.
After Nawaz Sharif became prime minister three times, his elder daughter Maryam Nawaz also became a prominent political figure. He began his political career in the (1985) when his elder brother Nawaz Sharif was serving prominently as the Chief Minister of Pakistan's largest province Punjab (1985-1990). Nawaz Sharif later served as Prime Minister for three consecutive terms, from (1985) to (1998), which resulted in the rise of Shahbaz Sharif to his stature.
Shahbaz Sharif became the Chief Minister of Punjab province from (2013 to 2018), and in (2017) he took over the leadership of the Pakistan Muslim League-N after the Supreme Court disqualified Nawaz Sharif from holding office. Shahbaz Sharif had four children with his first wife Nusrat Shahbaz. His elder son Hamza Shahbaz Sharif served twice in the National Assembly (2008 to 2018) before assuming the leadership of the Muslim League (N) in Punjab province in (2018) and as the Chief Minister of Punjab province in 2022.
Perform short services. In (2003), Shahbaz Sharif married Tehminaa durani, who became his second wife. In (1988), Shahbaz Sharif contested the elections that were held after the death of Zia-ul-Haq. He was elected to the Punjab Provincial Assembly in the same year, and soon after (1990) won a seat in the National Assembly. In (1993) he was re-elected to both the National Assembly and the Punjab Provincial Assembly. He gave up his seat in the National Assembly and became the Leader of the Opposition in the Provincial Assembly from (1993 to 1996).
(1997) Muslim League-N came to power in the whole country and Shahbaz Sharif was elected as the Chief Minister of Punjab.
The period after Zia-ul-Haq's rule proved to be tumultuous for Pakistan's democracy and especially for the Sharif brothers. The reins of government shifted especially between Benazir Bhutto, the daughter of Pakistan Peoples Party leader Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, and Nawaz Sharif. But, when Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif continued to accuse each other of corruption, the governments between (1988) and (1996) were terminated prematurely due to pressure from military leaders.
The 1997 election campaign not only allowed Nawaz Sharif to gain more power than any previous civilian government in Pakistan's history, but also stonewalled the opposition and forced Bhutto into exile. But a number of factors, from the outbreak of tensions to Pakistan's nuclear weapons tests in 1998 and the diplomatic fallout from the Kargil war in 1999, worsened its strained relationship with the military. Shahbaz Sharif occasionally served as the crisis manager of his brother Nawaz Sharif's administration.
But in October 1999, when Nawaz Sharif tried to replace General Parvez Musharraf as army chief after his flight was stopped from landing in Pakistan, Parvez Musharraf took power in a coup and completely replaced the civilian government Dismissed Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif were removed from their respective positions and later tried for hijacking a commercial airliner. Shahbaz Sharif was acquitted but went into exile in Saudi Arabia in 2000 under the amnesty deal of his brother Nawaz Sharif.
Shahbaz Sharif was re-elected as the Chief Minister of Punjab in the 2008 elections. He launched development projects, improved access to education, and rooted out corruption in the bureaucracy. He remained chief minister after his party left charge following the 2013 elections, and continued his development program in his second term. Among his most notable projects in his second term was the construction of the Lahore Orange Line Metro Train, the first of its kind in Pakistan. Such projects were made possible by China's growing investment. The (CPEC) program made Pakistan a strategic hub of China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) during the Sharif dynasty's rule. In 2015, the Panama Papers found Nawaz Sharif and his three children, including Maryam Nawaz, involved in corruption. Shahbaz Sharif was not found directly involved, but he faced a lot of rhetoric in the June 2017 Supreme Court probe.
After Nawaz Sharif was disqualified from holding public office, he moved to London in August, where his wife was undergoing treatment. Maryam Nawaz joined them in September. His absence left Shehbaz Sharif to take the reins of PML-N leadership. However, in the 2018 elections, the Muslim League (N) was defeated by Imran Khan's government Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf and Shahbaz Sharif became the leader of the opposition.
In September 2020, due to public frustration in response to the ongoing economic crisis, Shahbaz Sharif formed a broad coalition with the People's Party, led by Zardari and his son Bilawal Bhutto, and other opposition parties. Known as the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), this coalition was the first in Pakistan's history to unite the opposition under the umbrella of a coalition.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman was made its leader. Several days later, Shahbaz Sharif was detained on charges of money laundering. After six months he was released on bail pending trial, and resumed leading the opposition. The PDM coalition failed to gain enough influence to topple Imran Khan's government by 2022. By then, Imran Khan was out of the military establishment. Imran Khan used rhetoric critical of one of Pakistan's closest military allies, the Western superpower, to oppose the Russia-Ukraine war by building ties with Russia amid its tensions with Ukraine.
Although Imran Khan played a key role in the negotiations that led to the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan, Imran Khan took a conciliatory stance on the Taliban's takeover of the country, which led to the US-Pakistan relationship. Both the army had a grudge against each other. With the support of some members of Imran Khan's own party, the PDM alliance ousted Imran Khan through a no-confidence motion in April 2022 and replaced him as prime minister with Shahbaz Sharif.
Despite expectations that Shahbaz Sharif as prime minister would ease Pakistan's woes, his tenure began with nothing but inflation. The economy continued to deteriorate during his first months in power, and many Pakistanis found themselves deeply disillusioned. Heavy summer rains and extreme heat wave caused melting of Hindu Kush-Himalaya glaciers and widespread flooding. The flood killed nearly 1,700 people, displaced millions, and, at its peak, submerged a third of the country.
Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf saw a stunning comeback in the July elections, and in a surprise victory, won 15 of the 20 seats contested in the legislative elections in Punjab province—where Shahbaz Sharif's son Hamza Shahbaz was serving as the Chief Minister of Punjab for several months. Imran Khan's victory allowed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf to replace him as its chief minister later this month. Shahbaz Sharif faced further challenges in late 2022, when the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan increased attacks on security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The militant group, which opposes the presence of Pakistani security forces in the province, held talks with the Pakistani government in November that resumed in June under Shahbaz Sharif's administration, with no progress. Later the ceasefire was ended.
Small-scale attacks by the Tahreek-e-Taliban Pakistan continued in the province. But a suicide bombing in July by the Islamic State–Khorasan Province, which opposes the TTP, scared many Pakistanis. The attack, in which more than 60 civilians participating in a political rally, were killed.
The political alliance between Nawaz Sharif's Muslim League (N) and Zardari's People's Party was strengthened by developments against Imran Khan and his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf. In May 2023, Imran Khan was arrested during an investigation into corruption during his time in office. Following his arrest, his supporters staged violent protests, triggering a crackdown on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf. Imran Khan's party suffered a further blow when Imran Khan was found guilty and sent to jail in early August. As the parliamentary term drew to a close in August, Shahbaz Sharif resigned from his government three days ago. His move led to the handover of the reins of government to a caretaker government, delaying the elections beyond their scheduled date in October. Although Nawaz Sharif was expected to retain his parliamentary seat in the election, he intended to return his brother Nawaz Sharif to power as prime minister.
Today, his brother Nawaz Sharif, who went to London, has returned to Pakistan and Shahbaz Sharif is running an election campaign along with his brother Nawaz Sharif in Pakistan. All the political parties are busy preparing for the elections. In the re-run elections, Shahbaz Sharif along with People's Party, MQM and JUIF have succeeded in forming the government in Pakistan. Currently, the current Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif, is working to move the country forward.
